President Trump's announcement that the US will not renew the USMCA ahead of its July 1, 2026 review deadline has thrown North America's deeply integrated auto industry into a period of prolonged uncertainty. With Washington reportedly pushing for a sharp increase in regional content requirements—from 75% to as high as 82%, with a new 50% US-specific mandate—automakers, suppliers, and labor unions are scrambling to position themselves ahead of negotiations that are now expected to stretch well past the deadline.
